Join Us and Make a Difference!

BayLegal welcomes civic-minded people interested in helping low-income and disadvantaged individuals and families. We welcome individuals considering a future in the law and people simply interested in using their skills to make a difference in our society and the lives of others.

Opportunities: Generally, non-legal volunteers, depending upon experience and availability, begin by working with our frontline staff assisting with the daily tasks of the firm, learning about the community and how the firm operates and then move in to working with advocates and attorneys on projects and cases.

Examples of Projects:

  • Domestic Violence Restraining Order Clinics - Staff and volunteers assist pro per litigants with the paperwork needed to receive a temporary restraining order. BayLegal conducts Clinics in Redwood City, throughout Contra Costa County, and is a partner in San Francisco's Cooperative Restraining Order Clinic (CROC).
  • Community Education and Outreach – assist BayLegal attorneys and advocates by preparing outreach and presentation materials,
  • Litigation/Case Support – assist BayLegal attorneys and advocates with preparing cases for administrative and court filing and hearings
  • Interpretation and Translation – volunteers who are fluent in a language other than English, particularly Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Russian, or other Southeast Asian languages, can assist BayLegal in its mission to provide high quality legal services to low-income people regardless of their location, language or disability
  • Expert/Forensic Assistance – assist BayLegal attorneys and advocates with expert assessments needed within a case (ex. business or property evaluation; computer forensics; etc)
